Getting here

Tetbury is on the edge of the Cotswolds, near the border of Gloucestershire and Wiltshire in the south west of the UK.

On the day, the centre of Tetbury will be closed to traffic and parking. Restrictions will be enforced throughout the town. Please ensure you park in the designated car parks and do not block roads for emergency vehicles or residents drive ways. 


Road Closures

Please note that road closures and diversions will be in operation around Tetbury on the day, as the town is shut to through traffic. The following road closures will be in place from 7am to 7pm on Monday 26th May.

  • Gumstool Hill – entire road will be CLOSED
  • A433 Church Street – CLOSED from the Old Brewery Lane with NO Access into Tetbury Town Centre
  • B4014 Silver Street / Market Place CLOSED from the bend round Silver Street into Market Place with NO Access into Tetbury Town Centre
  • Cirencester Road CLOSED from just after the Royal Oak Pub / Herd Lane with NO Access into Tetbury Town Centre (Note that access to the Goods Shed Car Park will be available)
  • A433 Long Street CLOSED from the junction with the A4135 New Church Street with NO Access into Tetbury Town Centre

Diversions will be in place and signage will be erected from 6:30am Monday morning.


Directions

From Bristol/Bath

Take the A46/Bath Road from Tormarton interchange heading North. Take the A433 towards Tetbury. Best parking: St Mary’s Primary School and West Street Car Parks.

From Malmesbury/Chippenham

From the A429, take the B4014 at the Aldi roundabout. Head West through Long Newnton towards Tetbury. Best parking: Tetbury Hospital

From Cirencester/Kemble

From the A433, take the first entrance to Tetbury at Cirencester Road to access the Tetbury Town Football Club car park.
To access the St Mary’s car park, continue along the A433 and turn right onto St Mary’s road. Best parking: Tetbury Town Football Club and St Mary’s Primary School.

From Minchinhampton/Avening

Approach the town on the B4014 (Hampton Street), As you reach the town centre, turn left onto the A433. Turn left onto St Mary’s Road. Best parking: St Mary’s Primary School.

From Stroud/Nailsworth

From the A46 Stroud/Nailsworth road.  Approach the town centre from Beverston on the A4135.  Pass the Fire Station on the right and continue onto the A433 for 400m, then turn left onto St Mary’s Road. Best parking: St Mary’s Primary School.


Car Parking

All those wishing to drive to enjoy the Woolsack Races are advised that car parking is available at a number of locations:

  • Tetbury Town Football Club – Preston Park – £3 per car – access via Cirencester Road – GL8 8FY – (Map)
  • St Mary’s Primary School – St Mary’s Road – £3 per car – access via A433 – GL8 8BW – (Map)
  • Tetbury Hospital – Malmesbury Road – £3 per car – access via B4014 – GL8 8XB – (Map)
  • West Street Car Parksnon-event parking priced as per council rates – access via West Street – GL8 8LL – (Map)

All event parking will be charged at £3 per vehicle, allowing you to stay as long as you wish on the day. All proceeds from car parking charges go to local charities.

Note: The Great Tythe Barn is unavailable for parking in 2025.

Disabled parking

Disabled parking spaces are available at the West Street Car Park. There will be limited disabled parking available on Long Street. These can be accessed at the road closure by the Visitor centre, at the A433/A4135/B4014 junction. Please ensure you have your blue badge with you and ready to show our staff at the closure.
